Vanuit de praktijk rijst de vraag of er een link is tussen alcoholafhankelijkheid en bariatrische chirurgie. Hebben patiënten postoperatief een groter risico op alcoholmisbruik? Enkel patiënten die een gastric bypass ondergaan, hebben een verhoogd risico. Na de operatie geven patiënten aan dat ze minder goed tegen alcohol kunnen en meer consumpties nuttigen. Hiervoor moeten verpleegkundigen dus zowel preoperatief als postoperatief voldoende educatie verschaffen aan patiënten. De over te dragen informatie is divers. Deze gaat zowel over de resultaten en risico?s van verschillende procedures als de effecten van alcohol na een ingreep. Daarnaast kunnen ook de fysieke en psychosociale redenen van alcoholafhankelijkheid aangehaald worden, zoals outcome van ingreep en addiction transfer. Zij kunnen die kennis vergaren via deze literatuurstudie, gevolgd door een ontwerp van een vorming. Deze bachelorproef met literatuurstudie en een ontwerp van een vorming kan gebruikt worden als bron voor verpleegkundigen om zich te verdiepen in dit thema, mits enige kritische blik.

Probleemstelling: Alcoholafhankelijkheid is een zeer frequent probleem in de Westerse populatie. Er is echter nog steeds geen duidelijkheid omtrent de optimale behandeling die kan gesteld worden bij alcoholafhankelijkheid en hoelang deze behandeling zou moeten duren. Methode: Een literatuurstudie waarbij de evidentie van behandelingen bij alcoholafhankelijkheid bekeken en vergeleken worden. Resultaten: Uit de literatuurstudie bleek dat de behandeling die dient opgestart te bij een alcoholprobleem, afhankelijk is van de ernst van het probleem dat vastgesteld werd bij de persoon. Alcoholafhankelijkheid is een chronisch probleem waarbij een langdurige behandeling noodzakelijk zal zijn. Wanneer de patiënt alcohol misbruikt maar niet afhankelijk is, kan een brief intervention voldoende zijn. Indien er zich een zeer ernstige afhankelijkheid voordoet bij de persoon, kan deze nood hebben aan intensieve extramurale nazorg. Ook Deep Brain Stimulation kan overwogen worden. Conclusie: Er bestaat niet één wonderbehandeling voor alcoholafhankelijkheid. Het is belangrijk om samen met de persoon met alcoholafhankelijkheid te zoeken naar de behandeling die bij hem het best werkt.

Making liquor isn't rocket science: some raw materials, a stove, and a few jury-rigged pots are all that's really needed. So when the colonial regime in turn-of-the-century French Indochina banned homemade rice liquor, replacing it with heavily taxed, tasteless alcohol from French-owned factories, widespread clandestine distilling was the inevitable result. The state's deeply unpopular alcohol monopoly required extensive systems of surveillance and interdiction and the creation of an unwieldy bureaucracy that consumed much of the revenue it was supposed to collect. Yet despite its heavy economic and political costs, this unproductive policy endured for more than four decades, leaving a lasting mark on Indochinese society, economy, and politics.The alcohol monopoly in Indochina was part of larger economic and political processes unfolding across the globe. New research on fermentation and improved still design drove the capitalization and concentration of the distilling industry worldwide, while modernizing states with increasing capacities to define, tax, and police engaged in a never-ending search for revenue. Indochina's alcohol regime thus arose from the same convergence of industrial potential and state power that produced everything from Russian vodka to blended Scotch whisky. Yet with rice liquor part of everyday life for millions of Indochinese, young and old, men and women, villagers and city-folk alike, in Indochina these global developments would be indelibly shaped by the colony's particular geographies, histories, and people.Imperial Intoxication provides a unique window on Indochina between 1860 and 1939. It illuminates the contradictory mix of modern and archaic, power and impotence, civil bureaucracy and military occupation that characterized colonial rule. It highlights the role Indochinese played in shaping the monopoly, whether as reformers or factory workers, illegal distillers or the agents sent to arrest them. And it links these long-ago stories to global processes that continue to play out today.

Contenu : La consommation d'alcool est une pratique courante chez les étudiants universitaires en Occident. La consommation d'alcool est influencée par différents facteurs et provoque plusieurs conséquences dans la vie d'un étudiant. Certaines études soutiennent la présence d'un lien direct entre la consommation d'alcool et la moyenne académique ou privilégie un lien indirect : diminution des efforts académiques. Méthode : Etude rétrospective transversale analysant la consommation d'alcool chez les étudiants (bachelier et masters) de l'Université catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve, inscrits dans l'année académique 2009-2010. Cette étude reprend à la fois les données officielles (signalétiques : informations fournies à l'inscription & performance : moyenne académique) et la base de données quantitative de l'enquête menée par Mr Lorant et son équipe (Institut de Recherche de Santé et de Société et la Faculté de Santé-Publique). L'échantillon (n=7.019) s'est construit en fonction des étudiants répondant au questionnaire web. Résultats : La fréquence de consommation excessive par mois ainsi que le nombre moyen de verres consommé par jour, lors d'une semaine type, influencent faiblement, significativement et négativement les résultats académiques (%) réalisé lors de la dernière session CP : -0,29,p<0,01 et p : -0,77, p<0,01). Quand nous ajustant le modèle sur les conséquences de l'alcool sur la vie académique (« négliger ses études », « brosser un cours » et « incapacité d'étudier ou de faire ses travaux » à cause de l'alcool), l'association entre les deux mesures de consommation d'alcool et la performance académique lors de la dernière session disparaissent (p>0,05). Il semble avoir un impact indirect de la consommation abusive d'alcool sur les résultats de la dernière session via la négligence de l'étudiant de ses études. La fréquence de consommation influence positivement mais faiblement les résultats de la dernière session après ajustement des variables confondantes (p : 0,3 p<0,01).

In Teaching 'Proper' Drinking?, the author brings together three fields of scholarship: socio-historical studies of alcohol, Australian Indigenous policy history and social enterprise studies. The case studies in the book offer the first detailed surveys of efforts to teach responsible drinking practices to Aboriginal people by installing canteens in remote communities, and of the purchase of public hotels by Indigenous groups in attempts both to control sales of alcohol and to create social enterprises by redistributing profits for the community good. Ethnographies of the hotels are examined through the analytical lens of the Swedish 'Gothenburg' system of municipal hotel ownership. The research reveals that the community governance of such social enterprises is not purely a matter of good administration or compliance with the relevant liquor legislation. Their administration is imbued with the additional challenges posed by political contestation, both within and beyond the communities concerned.
